The BIF uses a two-tank design to reduce stubborn iron, manganese and sulfur without chemicals. The first tank contains a pocket of compressed air that precipitates the iron into solid form. The second tank reduces the solidified iron as it passes through the filter media. This unique chemical-free system is lower maintenance than systems using ozone, chlorine or peroxide. There is no air injector to plug or ozone generator to fail. The BIF is also more effective than traditional air-over-media filters as there is more contact time with the air. More air = better oxidation.

- Efficient Regeneration: The BIF regenerates less frequently and uses up to 50% less water than single-tank iron filters. Periodic automatic regeneration replenishes the supply of oxygen and removes iron from the media bed
